Bullion Done A Sunday

Another week another link to a FACT Mix.

Pretty much Britain's only soldier in the yankee led glo-fi wars, Bullion drops a sweet 25 minute mix that brings to mind Four Tet's LateNightTales mix CD. Man, that's my Sunday CD.

Laid back, odd, a bit noodly and a bit crackly, it shoots off in all kinds of directions and is well worth a listen.

WEAVE = 1979

Seeing that the last post had absolutely nothing to do with post-punk here's one that does.

WEAVE! sound like 1979. Delta 5 circa 1979, The Slits circa 1979, a little bit ESG circa 1979 and very much everything good circa 1979.

Islet + Free MP3s

Got a new gig writing occasionally for Buzz's website.

Here's the second piece (The first was about a shit comedian). It's about Islet. They've finally released something.

Two things in fact. One of them, Jasmine, made my top 10 of last year.

In exchange for your email address you can get the tracks here.

Cigarettes & Coffee

I've long admired this song while never quite putting my finger on why. Why, above all of the slow burning lover-man Soul, Cigarettes And Coffee sucker-punches me.

But tonight I think I've cracked it.

It's at 3 minutes and 12 seconds. It's the swallowed please... darling, help me...

Beyond lust, just out of reach, these four words suddenly evaporate thoughts muddled by drink or time. It's the daunting realisation of contentedness. Borders marked, adventures halted... yet happy. Happy to be trapped.

Old Music For A New Decade From An Old Medium

No longer I walk in my own musicscape. As I've previously noted, my listening habits have altered. I've returned to CDs as I resolve.

A requested Christmas present, I would been floored if mother had bought this without instruction, ZE30: Ze Records Story 1979>2009 is pretty Ronseal.

Covering the lifespan of the hippest of NY labels, it's crammed with Ze's self-styled mutant-disco as well as related excursions in post-punk, electro-rockabilly and various scenes suffixed with "-wave".

A highlight comes in the straight-from-Studio-54-chug of Deputy Of Love. Polished yet a little ramshackle, just how it should be.

Slow Off The Mark

This is probably a redundant post, seeing how it's been in most peeps end-of-year lists, but have you heard Hyph Mngo?

Well I hadn't until the other day, but I'm thinking of retrospectively altering my own end-of-year list.

Thick and warm, to these ears it nods towards the "liquid funk" sound that Fabio used to be push when I was a devotee. The chopped, saccharine vocals reveals the clearest link back to 2-step that I've heard in a dubstep track for a while, maybe even nestling up to UK Funky, if I knew what the fuck that was.

An essential listen. And sorry for the delay. Can I blame the snow?

Some Songs Put Together By Someone Else Which Sums Up Minimal Wave Pretty Much.

I've banged on about that coldwave mix quite a bit so it's about time I found something similar.

Veronica Vasicka specialises in this early obscure synth-pop business and has put together a mix for backpacker behemoths, Stones Throw as part of their podcast series and to promote her comp The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol. 1 which is out January 26th

It ain't as good as the Angular mix but it's interesting none-the-less.
