Four Tet Words & Music

Gillesy P talking to Four Tet about his career and playing key tracks for two hours?

I'm there with bells on.

This is an excellent retrospective of Kieran Hebden's winding musical path, with loads of insights and info. It also serves as a fantastic introduction to one of the consistently great producers of the last 10-15 years.

One of the many things I learned of was his connection to J Dilla and how this remix came about (about 58 mins in) ...

This podcast was originally broadcast on BBC 6 Music in November 2015.

Leicester City Whip It, Whip It Good

I've been listening to Football Weekly (and Football Weekly Extraaaaaaaa) from The Guardian for years, pretty much from it starting in 2006.

Yet I believe Tuesday's special edition (moved back from Monday to accommodate Leicester City's Premier League title) was the first time Devo have been mentioned on the podcast (about 22 minutes in).

And I don't need to be asked twice to post some Devo.

The Music Wall: QR Codes, Mermaid Quay & Kim Wilde

Here's a neat and cheap way to hide an empty shop unit.

Music Wall in Mermaid Quay. Kim Wilde's Water On Glass #FTW #QRcode

A photo posted by Sammyfax (@ceefaxoflife) on

It's a Music Wall, 16 water-related tracks that you can access via the QR codes on the records. I like the thinking behind this, Mermaid Quay is "Cardiff's Vibrant, Captivating Waterfront" after all and I like puns and I like music. Mermaid Quay also occasionally puts on live music and their #MQMusicFest continues today.

My only question is around the use of QR codes. I see and understand their purpose, I like the look of them (naturally) but how many people actually use them?
Wikipedia says they're being used on everything from headstones to coins but as QR readers don't seem to come as standard on a lot of phones, or they're not obvious to the user if they're on there already, how many people go out of their way to use QR codes? Especially when we can all type a URL pretty quick?

There's still a lot of work to be done bridging the offline and online worlds, but well done Mermaid Quay for an innovative use of space, and doing some that integrates music as a fun activity in Cardiff Bay.

And thanks for putting Kim Wilde's best song on your music wall...

Yes Yes Bass

Fancy some bass in your face this Bank Holiday? Yes yes?

Hybrid Theory's remix of Plump DJs' Yes Yes is out today on Punks Music.

Big up to Terry Hooligan for pointing me towards this on his new podcast, Live From London...
