Top 10 Things I Heard in 2019

Yes mate, here's my top 10 things I heard in 2019. Just like in all the other editions of my end-of-year list, it ain't all new releases. Instead, it's things I heard for the first time in 2019, no matter when they were released. And even that is nonsense, as I definitely heard one of these tracks before 2019, it just took on greater significance this year.

So in no particular order, so here we go...

1. Metronomy at Bristol 02 Academy, in particular, the duelling synths during Lying Low

2. Pretty much everything off Igor by Tyler, the Creator

3. Aphex Twin - Rhubarb orc. 19.53 rev [unrev mono edit]

4. The Beta Band - Dry The Rain

5. Blanck Mass' latest album Animated Violence Mild (and his Clwb Ifor Bach show was tidy too)

6. Virna Lindt - Intelligence

7. Spacemen 3 - Amen

8. Shanti Celeste - Aqua Block

9. TNGHT - II
Can't decide between DOLLAZ and Gimme Summn, but as they're off the same EP, I might as well whack it all in.

10. Dire, Dire Docks from Super Mario 64, as featured in Teki Latex's Boiler Room mix

Powder Dry Boxing Day

So, how was your Christmas? I hope it was better than mine.

Turns out that my highlight came on Boxing Day. Nope, not at 6am in Children's A&E but at 9pm on YouTube. That's when Aphex Twin uploaded his set from this summer at Manchester's Warehouse Project.

Lovely stuff. I'm still working my way through it TBH, but the first thing that really grabbed my ear was this nostalgic rave rumbler from Overmono:

Yes, mate. Powder Dry closes Overmono's Arla II EP, which came out on XL back in 2017. There's also a track called Telephax 030 on there, so all the 👍👍👍.
