Bore da, baby! Another one of these playlists of tracks I've been enjoying recently...

3dl - From Still To The Birth

Straight into the top 10 things I heard this year. Incredible Japanese synth-pop from 1987. I've been reliably informed by Dan of Machine Records it sounds a lot like early Magnetic Fields.

XTC - Making Plans For Nigel

Amazed I've not posted about Making Plans For Nigel before, big uni vibes, big Shades vibes (which is now an office or centre of a mental health charity). I just clocked that the closed captions on YouTube describe the intro as funky punk music. You can't argue with that.

Cerrone - Supernature

I've never desired a drum kit before like the clear-coloured plastic one in the video, aside from Young Marble Giants' electronic set-up - Yamaha?

This is off that TK Maxx Christmas Ad innit. Retro-futuristic electronic disco music from 1977, hook it to me.

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)

Is this golden-era hip-hop? Absolutely slaps regardless.

Stereolab - Ping Pong

Think I say this every time Stereolab is mentioned here, but I really should get into Stereolab. Think I'd have a great time.

Actually, just did a quick search, and this is only the third post that's tagged Stereolab. Look it's early.

Masashi Hamauzu - Besaid

Think Flo on the NTS Breakfast Show said this was off a Final Fantasy OST? Pretty chill with some lovely strings, though there are these little details which sound like the EarthBound soundtrack, like the chug/stutter drums whatever they are. And sounding like the EarthBound OST is no bad thing.

Tom Trago - A Shine Through

Not much to add here apart from that this is a right spaced-out groove.

Bicep - Water (feat. Clara La San)

It's easy to mock Bicep.

It's the trebly video game synth line that kicks in after 3:30 for me. Two bloke techno will never die.

LFO - Freak

Still bangs. Will always bang. LFO forever.

More list fun. Buzzfeed forever.

Electric Youth - The Best Thing

Was this on the Drive soundtrack? If not it should've been. Synthwave at its finest, mate.

The Space Lady - Synthesize Me

Weirdo synth pop from the western fringes of America. Proper outsider stuff, lovely stuff, think Flo played this on an NTS Breakfast show. I live for breakfast shows.

Sananda Maitreya - Wishing Well

A cornerstone of the mumbanger scene. Also, I completely missed when he changed his name from Terence Trent D'Arby.

Bruce Springsteen - I'm on Fire

A Do!! You!!! staple, kinda surprised this is the first Bruce track I've posted in 13 years doing this blog.

Mathew Lee Cothran and Delaney Mills - Better Off Alone

Weird how your reaction to pop music changes over time, especially the stuff that came out when you're a teenager. I properly fist pumped to ATB's 9pm (Till I Come) in the drive down to Cornwall the other day and now here I am posting a lo-fi indie cover of Alice Deejay's Better Off Alone. I couldn't stand either track at the time but here we are.

Isa Gordon - Parting Game

Token entry of something released in 2022 in one of these 9 in 1 lists. That's harsh, this is proper good, sprawling intricate electronic head music, released on Optimo's label.

Der Plan - Hey Baby Hop

Prankster-ish German new wave from 1984. I am who I am, and I like what I like.

Dry Cleaning - Conservative Hell

Am I part of the meal deal? Yeah, I'm fully on board with Dry Cleaning now.

Joe & The Shitboys - Manspredator

Vegan queer punk band from the Faroe Islands? Yes please!

Gold Panda Buzz

Back on the Buzz again, baby. I figured if I wanted to include writing reviews in the 'interests' section of my CV, I'd have to actually do some again.

So yeah, I reviewed Gold Panda's new album The Work, which came out today (Friday 11 November 2022) on City Slang. It's good like...

How can you possibly improve Steppin' Out by Joe Jackson?

How about a 43-minute super extended remix that feels all space disco and that?

Yeah, that is one possible way...
